Nostradamus is a renowned French physician, astrologer and clairvoyant. He wrote a series of prophecies he claimed were sent from God. Predictions in his book have been referenced in multiple culture and time periods. They include events such as the French Revolution, World War I, World War II, the assassination of John F Kennedy and many others even to this day. The predictions often become ironic when they do not come true as predicted by the author. The prophecies have been referenced from the Middle Ages to the present. They have been subject to much scrutiny by scholars who have studied them for dozens of years. The prophecies are not widely accepted as having authentic historical value by most scholars. The Nostradamus Prophecy is a series of poems, published in a one-volume literary form, that purports to be a book written by Michel de Nostradame, a French physician and astrologer, that contains prophesies. The first edition was published in 1566 with an additional two editions published in 1567 and 1568. A rewritten edition with numerous corrections appeared in 1673 as well as an index from 1678. In the poem, Nostradamus uses a number of poetic devices. In December 1554, Nostradamus wrote a prophecy on a quatrain that read: He then finished the quatrain with the phrase "comme plusieurs viendront des vrais" (lit. "as many others will come from the true"). This led people to believe that he was referring to someone coming from a place called "the true". The Nostradamus Prophecies say that there will come to France, but where? Some people thought this referred to an army of just one person, while others believed it referred to two people. The Nostradamus Prophecies have been translated many times into many languages, including English. The prophecies have been subject to much scrutiny by historians. The prophecies are not widely accepted as authentic historical value by most scholars. Although the prophecies are generally considered work of fiction, some individuals continue to attribute them to Nostradamus long after he died. Many people consider writing the Nostradamus Prophecies to be a type of magic trick involving people who think they are being fooled by someone who has knowledge that people did not have at the time, but did not do these things themselves. This cheating of the reader was considered to be the work of the devil, according to some people. In 1889, Nostradamus was described as a "great charlatan", and his alleged prophecies were compared to those by William Shakespeare. In 1960, a well-regarded book described Nostradamus as a "fraud", and also called the Nostradamus Prophecies as works of fiction. The book, however, did not call Nostradamus a charlatan. The book said that there were no prophecies from Nostradamus that were as accurate as those from other writers who had never been described as "charlatans". cfa1e77820
